Horses are measured by hands. 1 hand = 4 inches. They are measured from the hooves, to the highest point on the shoulder.
~ American Saddle Horse - Bright sorrel with white points. Bay and occasionally grey. 15 - 17 hands high. Weighing 1000 pounds.
~ Arabian - Chestnut, grey, and occasionally black. 14- 15 hands high. Weighing 800 - 1000 pounds.
~ Morgan - Chestnut and bay. 15 hands high. Weighing 1000 pounds.
~ Quarter Horse - Sorrel, bay, grey, and black. 15 hands high. Weighing 1100 - 1300 pounds.
~ Standard Bred - Sorrel, brown, and black. 15 - 16 hands high. Weighing 900 - 1200 pounds.
~ Tennessee Walking Horse - Comes in a variety of colors. 15 hands high. Weighing 1000 - 1200 pounds.
~ Thoroughbred - Bay or sorrel with white points. 15 - 17 hands high. Weighing 1000 - 1200 pounds.
Horse Markings - Star, snip, stripe, and blaze. All these markings are on a horses face or head. Other markings such as: White coronet, small pastern, pastern, sock, stocking, irregular sock, and partial pastern markings, are on a horses leg. Horses can also have markings on there hooves.
